چکیده

A simplified method for the analysis of both the glyceride-rich Sf 20-1 O5 and the cholesterol-rich St 0-20 lowdensity lipoproteins is presented. It consists of serum lipoprotein fractionation by preparative ultracentrifugation and subsequent quantitative analysis by refractometry. Comparison of this technique with the technically more difficult analytic ultracentrifugal methodology reveals comparable results for these two principal low-density lipoprotein groups. The relationships between these lipoproteins and the serum levels of total lipids, glycerides, total cholesterol, and phospholipids are also presented. One of the advantages of this procedure is that it provides a reliable and reproducible means for quantifying the principal glyceride-bearing lipoprotein groupthe Sf 201 Oh lipoproteins.

Quantitation of serum lipoproteins by electrophoresis on agarose gel: standardization in lipoprotein concentration units (mg-100 ml) by comparison with analytical ultracentrifugation.

Lipoprotein electrophoresis on agarose gel has been modified to allow estimation of the absolute quantity of each fraction. The reproducibility of the method is illustrated by 12 determinations in a single day on serum from one normal subject: mean total dye uptake was 302 +/- 9 (sd "corrected dye units," and the percentages of beta-, pre-beta, and alpha-lipoprotein were 56.1 +/- 0.9, 29.1 +/- ...

Rapid method for the isolation of lipoproteins from human serum by precipitation with polyanions.

Procedures are described for the isolation of lipoproteins from human serum by precipitation with polyanions and divalent cations. A mixture of low and very low density lipoproteins can be prepared without ultracentrifugation by precipitation with heparin and either MnCl(2) alone or MgCl(2) plus sucrose. In both cases the precipitation is reversible, selective, and complete. The highly concentr...

A quantitative method for blood lipoproteins using cellulose acetate electrophoresis.

A rapid, inexpensive, and quantitative method is described for obtaining the levels of plasma very low, low, and high density lipoproteins using cellulose acetate electrophoresis and lipid assays without prior separation by ultracentrifuge or other techniques. It involves separation of the lipoproteins by cellulose acetate electrophoresis, followed by their identification with the ozone-Schiff ...

Effects of Lycopene on the Susceptibility of Low-Density Lipoproteins to Oxidative Modification

The intake of antioxidants intake has been reported to be inversely associated with the incidence of coronary artery disease. To clarify the possible role of lipophilic antioxidants in prevention of atherosclerosis, we investigated the effects of lycopene on the susceptibility of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) to oxidative modification. In this study, “lycopene” was added to plasma and incubated...
